Our mission

Mental illness affects millions of people, yet its biology is still poorly understood. We believe lasting progress begins with rigorous science — and with treating every patient as an individual.

The Florian Holsboer Foundation gGmbH is a charitable, non-profit company based in Munich. It is dedicated to promoting science and research in psychiatry and neuroscience, with particular attention to how stress shapes the brain and contributes to conditions such as depression and anxiety.

Through funding, collaboration and public engagement, the foundation helps translate fundamental discoveries into knowledge that can improve the lives of patients and their families — and works to reduce the stigma that still surrounds mental health.

What we support

Four areas guide the foundation's work — from the laboratory bench to society at large.

Our approach

From fundamental discovery to better care.

Scientific excellence
We back ideas that are bold, methodologically sound and open to independent scrutiny.
Patient focus
Every project we support should ultimately serve people living with mental illness.
Independence
As a gGmbH, the foundation pursues exclusively charitable purposes, free of commercial interests.

Help us make a difference

The foundation relies on the generosity and engagement of people who share our conviction that mental health deserves the same scientific attention as physical health.
